Now that we can think about spring again, the grade 2 teachers have been excited about gardening. But some of them have had some problems keeping their plants alive. Some of the plants have turned brown, some have stopped growing, and some have just dried up and died! They don't know what to do!!
Now they'd like to hire your team to be detectives and investigate what they need to do to get their plants growing tall and strong!
Can you be detectives and figure out how to help your poor teachers and their sad plants? Each student will be one type of detective and investigate just one of these four aspects of plants:
the parts of a plant
the life cycle of plants
what plants need
create a graph to show the results of our class experiment
If you're ready for this project, we'll have to get really organised. Let's use the Super 3 we've used before:
Plan – (Beginning) When students get an assignment or a task, BEFORE they start doing anything, they should think--- · What am I supposed to do? · What will it look like if I do a really good job? · What do I need to find out to do the job? This Web Quest
Detective 1: I will learn all about the parts of a plant. I will draw a diagram and explain what each part does so that we can figure out what each part needs to survive.
Detective 2: I will learn about the life cycle of plants. I will create a diagram of a life cycle so we can understand how plants grow.
Detective 3: I will learn about what plants need in order to grow. I will make a poster showing each need and explaining why plants need them.
Detective 4: I will be in charge of keeping track of the data that is collected during our experiment. I will create a graph showing how the plants did during the experiment so that we can see proof of what plants need to grow.
Do - (Middle)
In the middle the students DO the activity. This is where they read, view, tell, make a picture, etc. This Web Quest Detective 1:
You must find out about the parts of plants and what each part does.
Then make a graph using all your data. This graph will show the progress of each plant over time. Your teacher may want you to use this site, or to use MaxCount.
Review – (End) Before finishing the product and turning it in students should stop and think - Is this done? · Did I do what I was supposed to do? · Do I feel OK about this? · Should I do something else before I turn it in? This Web Quest Use this chart to judge how well your group did on this project:
